Whatever, just wash your hands.

As the title says, Biden has announce that Kamala Harris of California will be his VP pick, making her the first black woman on the ticket in US history.

Probably a smart move, and a safe one too. But man the attack ads against her are going to be vile.

But a black woman who is tough on crime crosses a lot of Is and dots a lot of Ts. As safe as Biden could pick

No surprise, black and women. Didn't need to look any further. But she doesn't sound like a bad pick. I do think Warren would have been a better idea but after the last few week they couldn't pick a non black person.

I would have really liked Warren but considering the age, I don't want two on the ticket that are that old.

The debates are inevitably going to reference the protests and BLM, and you need someone like Harris to say Black Lives Matter and get Pence to disagree. Warren wouldn't have the same impact.

I think it might be tough to sell Harris as being a benevolent defender of the downtrodden, her past will be a pretty effective counter to such a pitch.

That's what makes her safe. She can say Black Lives Matter, while maintaining that riots aren't the way to accomplish something.

July 15:
Here is how the VP pick is going to go down. If Biden picks a progressive, it means that party insiders think he'll be able to make it through a term without being incapacitated by dementia, and will be able to control his policies; therefore, it is "safe" to put out a progressive to cater for votes. If Biden nominates a neoliberal or party-line Democrat, than the Democratic leadership has no faith in his health being able to stand up to the rigour of even a puppet presidency, and will face the backlash from failing to bring in the progressive wing over giving the progressive wing a chance to inherit the presidency from an ailing Biden.
I'm not sure if there was a more party-line pick than Kamala Harris, current events notwithstanding.

That might be quite a challenge in the age of the sound bite, but I take your point.

I've seen her name around, but what's that about her past that would leave her prone to attack ads (I mean, more than being black, a woman and a Democrat already leave her)? A quick primer would be appreciated. Or pointing me in the right direction. Also good.

She was a prosecuting attorney in San Francisco and attorney general of California. Conservatives would say she was too lenient on criminals - their goto for that is she didn't seek the death penalty on a case that involved an undercover cop being killed. Liberals would say she's like 10 years behind on reforms and police abuses and was in fact too close to the police during her tenure.

There are some claims that she treated falsely imprisoned citizens poorly by twisting the rules, and she was pretty lenient on bad prosecutors, and she declined to help an initiative that would mandate bodycams for police.

Joe "Shoot'em in the Leg" Biden is of course is going to choose The Cop as his running mate. They've demonstrated time and time again that the Moderate Republican is their target audience so obviously they're going to go in with the lady who got visibly excited at the prospect of charging a single mom with jail time because her kids were truant from school.

I suppose if you're going to keep brushing away Progressives from wanting to vote for you, you might as well go All-In at this point.

Ah, a good complement to Biden then.
