YIKES! People need to be careful with their hand sanitizers this is scary!

Here is another story about it exploding after being left in their car!

I have seen so many running around with these around their wrists and this is really how dangerous these are!

Any decent hand sanitizer has an alcohol content of 60-95%. I don't know how the likelihood of it igniting in a hot car is, but it seems prudent to keep it away from direct sunlight or other heat sources.

Fear-mongering about the dangers of "exploding" hand sanitizer seems like something an anti-masker covid-hoax type would do.

To be fair to both of these stories, keeping ANY enclosed liquid in your car is a bad idea. Whether it's cans of pop, bottles of water, or a thing of hand sanitizer, high heat (or high cold) will cause shit to explode. I think people also underestimate the fact that a lot of hand sanitizer is alcohol, which is quite flammable I've heard...

Due to shortages, a lot of people have been using off brands and home brews as that have not been tested or deemed safe as well and that increases the likelihood of something like this happening . They said the one that exploded in the car was in Texas, and due to how hot it actually gets in Texas, I can see that being an issue. I have had so many things melt in my car if I forgot and left them in there. DVD's, plastic hair barrettes, mouthwash bottles.. Hell when I went to take my drivers test the first time, the ass of my pleather pants literally melted to the leather seat on the way there so when I got up, part of my pants was melted to the seat.. Since I didn't want to wait months to make another appointment, I had to take my test that way. When they went to take my driver's license photo, I had my hands behind my back trying to literally "cover my ass" and the guy taking the photo told me " Smile for the camera "Breezy" , so yea I was pretty beet red from blushing in my DL photo with my hands behind my back like some cartoon. LOL

That story is going in the "things that made me smile" thread.

If you're not going to use the word exploding, what would you use?
I dunno, flammable?
But I don't think it's inaccurate, I was just amused. If this news had come from some right-wing source, people would scoff at it, is all.

Lil does always seem to have an amusing or extraordinary anecdote for nearly every situation, doesn't she? What an exciting life...
Houseman, I am sure that unless you have lived your life hiding under your bed you have plenty of things that happen to you every day that if you just try to remember and share, they are likely funny as well. We have all had drinks spilled on us, crazy things happen, and stupid things like literally slipping on a banana peel ( that I actually had happen as well and fell back into my car hitting my stick shift in my back in the grocery store parkinglot) Life is really that nuts sometimes..

The point is, EVERYONE has stuff happen to them every day if they just pay attention to what is going on around them and remember it. Instead of focusing on being scornful and spiteful about everyone else's life, you could just try and focus on your own and remember and share some of your own experiences instead.

Personally, the way I view my own life is like sometimes it is so crazy like it is a cartoon, anything that can happen to me seems to be trying, like it can even feel like I am in a war zone at times, but it doesn't do me or anyone else any good to always let myself get down about it. You can laugh, cry or die, but as long as you are still laughing about it, it is okay. May help you to look at your own life and learn to laugh about it as well.

People have gotten ridiculous about the virus. The chance of getting infected through contacting surfaces is rather small. There's no need to carry around hand sanitizer.

uh huh, sure.
I am sure you have done plenty of things other than hide in your room watching Child like Anime. Maybe share some of those things? Most people have a lifetime of memories if they just think about them. To me, my memories are what is most important to me, that is why when our building was on fire, I grabbed my cats, my purse, my computer and my photo album. Maybe if you look through some of your old photos, it will help you remember what happens to you as well and you can share something funny sometimes too?

Even before the pandemic, it was common for school teachers to walk around with those bath and body works hand sanitizer bracelets at school. This is really more common than you think and could turn crazy dangerous by the looks of that poor woman and her home.
These little wristlets that held their scented hand sanitizers in them:
[Bath and body works jelly holders
So if they were near a candle or something,.. another thing Bath and Body works sells. This could turn bad as well.

CONSPIRACY: Bath and body works is secretly trying to explode people with hand sanitizer wristlets and candles. /s XD

Maybe. Exploding sanitizer probably gives enough context. It probably gives the image of coke can exploding. IDK if flammable does that

I've never seen a sanitizer bottle explode. Does it actually flame up or send out sparks like magnesium? Like, coke can explodes pressure. If it is pressure, do those hand pumps on top release the pressure?

Anyway, wanna see a really stupid headline?

Yep, all those words are used in the story. Putting all those words into a headline in that fashion gives a different impression of what's going on.

Also, I personally think Fox news desk does a reasonable job telling the news. They're not the problem, it's the commentators, just like on the other side

When you look at the photos in the first link, both of the damage to the house and where her burns are and her description, it looks like it actually exploded. Watch the video, she goes into detail about what happened to her.

It is like when it explodes it sends the gel in all directions burning whatever it touches pretty bad like a sticky bomb of sorts.

In regards to having stories to tell. I think people underestimate how the things that we consider trivial or a logical series of events can be very interesting or unusual when told to others. Particularly on the internet. One need only pay attention to all the people in this very forum to see how diverse our experiences can be. Agema has lived a very different life from that of Lil who's lived a very different life from that of myself who's lived a very different life from that of Kae who's lived a very different life from that of Gethsemani.

I've read enough history to know that extraordinary things can happen often in a single person's life or in a single night for an entire town. Everyone has an interesting story or two to tell about themselves if we only spend time to listen to them.

TBH though I pretty much viewed my cheap pleather forever 21 pants getting melted to my car seat and everyone making fun of me rather humiliating at the time than interesting, of course THAT is what HAD to come to mind when I start thinking about things melting in my hot car. To make it worse, every time I look at my DL I am reminded of it due to when it happened. But if you can't laugh at yourself then who can you laugh at?
