At least stick to the age of consent for your own country. That would be 16 in the UK. That way, you won't be in trouble legally, and if you both can wait that long, it'll prob be worth it in the end.

It depends completely on the type of game that is being made. Devs need to pick which system works best for their game and go from there. I don't find one system better then other.
