I think they should just make it so you can buy the materials, that way theres a quick and easy way to get the materials but you still have to work for them. Adding in some more side-missions to earn this money wouldnt be too bad I think.

Gears of War 2. Red Faction Guerilla. Halo (2 and onwards had barely anything in the terms of single player). Fable II . Far Cry 2. Modern Warfare 2. And of course Bioshock 2. Games really need to stop using online multiplayer as their main selling point.
