    EA Intervention

Exactly what I was going to point out. Also, in 2004 (when HL2 was released), there was still a relatively low uptake of broadband internet. Using Steam over dial-up was not a good experience (and indeed it can be an annoying experience on occasion even now).

    Know Your Gaming Roots

Since everyone else is mentioning those companies they think should have been mentioned, allow me: Origin. Mainly (for me) for the Ultima series, but they produced a lot of other games too, including Bioforge, Crusader and Wing Commander. Another great developer destroyed by EA.

    Mine all Minecraft

If I remember correctly, it's 9.95 euro. That's about $13.86 or £8.69. Very cheap for what you get, and there's going to be a big update on Halloween, including a Hell level. [edit] That minecraft Oct 31st update in full here: Halloween Update [http://www.minecraft.net/boo/]

How Much of a Nerd Are You?

I actually bothered to go through the rest of the questions, but the vast majority don't quite work for me. I mean, the part about the best part of "my room"? I have a house dammit, multiple rooms! Also, why no option for "I don't have any action figures", better options for the food (some...

Game Stash: The Death of PC Gaming

The biggest boon to the PC is indie developers. Especially for those of us that like old-school adventure games or RPGs. PC Gaming cannot die so long as there are people willing to make new, interesting or niche games for it. The AAA games may be fewer now, but there's still plenty of...

    262: Stop Killing the Foozle!

The Ultima games were my first foray into RPGs (some might be able to tell from my Avatar), and have shaped what I consider an RPG to this day. I started with U4 of course, although I never quite got the hang of becoming the Avatar.

    Voice vs. Choice

I definitely preferred the way things were handled for Baldur's Gate and Planescape Torment. Sarevok and Irenicus' voice acting was top notch (and for the companions - Minsc especially!), but the majority of NPCs would have a maximum of a few lines of voice acting. The small amount of VA...

    Catherine?s Soundtrack Renaissance

One of the benefits of buying games from Good Old Games is that they often come with a soundtrack, some of which are quite fantastic. The idea of a soundtrack adding hugely to a game is something that has been part of gaming for some time, you only have to look at the likes of Monkey Island...

District 9 Sequel to Deliver the Unexpected in Two Years

Aren't they calling the sequel "District 10"? I really enjoyed D9, thought it was a great sci-fi film and possibly my favourite film of 2009. Not sure if they can capture the same feeling the second time around, but I'll definitely be going to see it.

WiiWare Takes a Descent Into Gaming History

I found the controls difficult enough with a keyboard (numpad ftw), dunno how it will translate to Wii controllers. I'd recommend people to head over to Good Old Games, where you can get Descent 1+2 for less than $6. Then, you can go look over at D2X-XL [http://www.descent2.de/index.html] for...

Live Action Prequel to Alan Wake Will Be Like Twin Peaks

Will the last episode, in a cunning twist, finally reveal there will be a PC version?

    That was awesome.

    Funny Gaming Dialogue

Baldur's gate has some of my favourite lines... Minsc [http://en.wikiquote.org/wiki/Baldur's_Gate_series#Minsc]: What? Boo is outraged! See his fury! It's small, so look close. Trust me, it's there.

Days of High Adventure: Gaming Fiction

Guilty pleasures perhaps... However, I don't think it's any problem that these books relate to gaming. They're as varied as much as other fiction books, in both depth and quality. My experience of such books is the trilogy that was essentially the prequel to the Baldur's Gate games, which...

    Huge Closures for GAME

Considering GAME have three shops in Newcastle, within about five minutes walk of each other, they could definitely use a reduction. I also find it odd that they are only now thinking about merging GAME and Gamestation, I always get annoyed when supposedly competing shops are owned by the...
