One of my favorite books is horror/comedy Gil's All Fright Diner by A. Lee Martinez.

Bright yellow with green highlights. The heroes will be to be busy laughing to defend themselves(alternatively, they'll be blinded). Also, no inhuman masks/helmets. I want the heroes to know their killing people just doing their jobs to support their families.

The Faerie Wars Chronicles series by Herbie Brennan. It wasn't until recently that I noticed the internet acknowledging it's existence, I thought I dreamed the whole series.
