If you're unlucky enough to be in the pyros face.. just Melee him. No point running from him if he locks onto you (specially if he has the backburner). If you're lucky enough to kill him early, you have the chance to find a health pack to put out the flames.

I dont like this new free to play bollocks and i'm sad to see it worm into TF2. I would however prefer to have more perks as someone who bought the game in its infancy. TF2 is not for everyone; it will be a large shock for the ModernWarfare chumps when they find their health doesnt just regen...
