It's the pacing of both the narrative and the gameplay which seemingly intertwine with each other, such as when you get the Antlion commanding squishy egg thing while you have to storm the beaches. I really love it.

On the surface area yeah Shadow of the Colossus is about battling giant monsters and rescuing your gall. Beneath that though is commentary on humanity, the fact that you yourself transform into a monster while killing these beings and generally a whole ironic take on the "Kill x to save y."
