I would play offline without hesitation if it wasn't for the fact I wouldn't be able to summun or be sommuned by other players. I like the co-op thingy for boss and hard zones (shrine of amana) but I just hate the pvp in DSII. I can't and don't want to deal with random people invading my world...

I farmed my 30 or so medalion at the smelter demon gate. I couldn't walk 2 steps before getting summoned. I don't know if it's still a good spot, but damn, people really needed help for him.

The smelter demon is in Iron keep. He's optional, you can completely skip him, that's probably why you missed him. He's on the right side of the first big room with lava and the furnace, you gotta pass the bridge and turh left.

Did you try going back to his spot after a loading screen ? Sometimes, the loot will be where the mob last standed... then again, you're supposed to receive the soul automaticaly so I don't know if it will work.
