Off the top of my head I'd say the Civilization franchise, Roller Coaster Tycoon, and perhaps GTA? Have not played tons of the last one, but out of what I've played I like the newer installments than the older.
Same here, I felt it got over hyped when I actually started playing it and the core fan base refuses to acknowledge its not as great as its predecessor and not really a top game of the year candidate.
I'd have to say mine is John Marston from Red Dead Redemption. Solid game I enjoyed more than I thought I would, mainly due to the main character's story. Also maybe Rex Powercolt from FC3: Blood Dragon because why the hell not.
As a Civ5 player I can agree that playing the game without any DLC is kind of a hollow experience compared to with DLC, mainly the Brave New World expansion. The difference in game play is night and day. Some games Im okay with not getting the DLC immediately because either their a decent enough...
First one for me would have to be Fable 3.
After a shaky ending to Fable 2, the franchise needed to come back strong. Did that happen? Hell no. Fighting the enemies is overwhelmingly easy, to the point where its just a chore. The "hub" for changing gear and what not is tedious, but than again...
For me its Cauliflower. There is nothing appealing about its smell, sight or taste and we already have broccoli which is bad enough, we don't need a hideous clone veggie.
