You can install Linux on the older versions, not the slims, the way Sony did backwards compatibility on the original PS3's was a joke, I believe that one version was due to hardware, one to an emulator, and one (which I have), never received either.

Does it do backwards compatibility? Allow you to change operating systems? Make French fries? I don't think so. As much as I give Sony credit for coming up with an actual marketing campaign for once, it doesn't do everything, but then again, no one wants backwards compatibility, or a dual shock...
