Review: Mercenaries 2: World in Flames

So you write reviews before actually completing a game. Interesting. Don't you think you owe it to your readers to at least add a disclaimer along the lines of "I wrote this before finishing the game, so it may not present an accurate picture of the whole experience...." at the top of your...

Mass Effect, Spore To Use Recurring Validation

Utterly, utterly pointless. Counter productive even. The PC is an open platform. That means pirate groups can decompile / reverse engineer the game executables and remove any copy protection. Unless they plan to stream game content from a server as you play (even then the pirates would probably...

    My teacher quit

Read the first line of my post again and think about whether I was seriously saying it's a good thing. I'll remember to use tags next time. Sorry if I came over a little harsh though - it's embittering when something like this happens.

    My teacher quit

Sorry kid, that war for foreign oil on terror, and all those tax cuts for the rich economy boosting reforms don't pay for themselves. It's necessary to cut back on the non essentials such as education, social security, healthcare, scientific research - if people want luxuries like that they...

    Ubisoft Buys Tom Clancy Name

He gave up ?5 million a year in royalty payments for a lump sum of ?20 million?!? Doesn't seem like such a good deal to me. It's not as if they're likely to stop making the games.

How long would you keep buying games on consoles with a power somwhere between the PS2 and the Wii?

Manufacturer support in some form is key, if you can't walk into toys r us or circuit city and pick up the console and games then it won't be a mass market phenomenon. Hunting for classic titles in second hand stores and on ebay will always be a niche pursuit for the enthusiast. I understood...

How long would you keep buying games on consoles with a power somwhere between the PS2 and the Wii?

They don't even need to lower the price, the mass market is far more accepting of low rez graphics than hardcore gamers. People just want to have fun. If it's fun, does it really matter whether the graphics are normal mapped or not? Most people still have sdtvs so don't see a dramatic difference...

    Give Linux Games a Spin

Beneath a Steel Sky was develeoped by Revolution software (the same guys behind the broken sword games) and published by Virgin Interactive. Lucasarts had nothing to do with it. See <a href=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beneath_a_Steel_Sky>here.

    PC Games On Demand?

From the article it looks like they plan to encode the output from a game and stream it to the set top box as live video. This could work for slower paced titles such as many casual games and turn based rpgs or strategy games. Surely anything requiring fast reactions/movement (FPS, racing...

IGN Details Changes in M-Rated Manhunt 2

Preview copies of the uncensored version were circulated to the press by rockstar in the weeks leading up to the unexpected British ban and American AO rating. There was even a <a href=http://www.n4g.com/wii/News-46733.aspx>full review of the uncut version published. They probably did the...

Psychonauts and the Tragedy of Used Games

I think this article overstates the benefits of pre-owned games "spreading the word" and bringing in new players. Many people simply aren't prepared to pay £30 - £40 for a game. That doesn't mean second hand sales should be banned. It's part of the contract when an item is sold. The item...
