Cern Scientists Trap First Antimatter Atoms

Actually, one of the physicists taking part in the ALPHA-project is in the credits of the movie. You are probably right that any use of antimatter is not on the horizon yet but that's not the most exciting about this experiment. It's the fact that antihydrogen can be captured long enough to...

    Multiverses.

180 degrees on a linear surface, yes. If the sum is greater than 180 degrees, it is because you have drawn it on a sphere. If it is less than 180 degrees, it is on a saddle. Mathematics predict that so it is constant.

    LHC or Spyrograph?

First off, it has nothing to do with God. Secondly, the results will help verify our current theories/make a theory more precise/find new stuff. Maybe you fail to see the importance but that does not make it any less important and exciting.

Poll: What do you think of Eyefinity/Surround?

Is Eyefinity not meant for 3 monitors? I means it's rather silly to use 2 monitors when playing games, especially FPS games. That would most likely mean your crosshair is split in two. Having 2 monitors is great. Just not for games I think.

Is it a circle, or a line? (Portal question)

Well, if you wrap a towel around you, you exert a force on the tower so it doesn't fall to the ground. In the portal picture, no force stops it from going down (given that gravity is present).

Is it a circle, or a line? (Portal question)

I'm not sure if that is the definition of a line. Say you live on a sphere (like the Earth) and draw a long enough line that follow the surface. It will meet itself at some point.

    Gliese 581 g

Or 34.6 years for those in the spacecraft ; ) There's already another thread on this subject just in case you didn't notice: Linkie linkie [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/18.235580-Earth-like-planet-found-Your-reactions?]

Earth like planet found. Your reactions?

"Simply acceleration" is actually not that simple once you get to speeds 0.3c - 0.4c. Then acceleration is not linear (it never is, though, but at low velocities, it's a good enough approximation) and the limit of speed to which something can accelerate is just less than the speed of light. Any...

Earth like planet found. Your reactions?

You are right time dilation is given by that formula. You just haven't specified t' t is a clock's proper time. That is, the time measured in the frame of reference (S) where the clock is at rest. t' is the time measured by another system (S') moving with the velocity relative to (S). In...

Poll: What is the gender ratio in your class?[FIXED]

It was obviously not math class ; ) I'm studying physics at uni and it's 4 girls to 16 guys or so. Pretty high ratio I think considering the type of subject.

So I Just Had a Surgery...

Hey, welcome to the club. I've had a jaw surgery as but just for the upper jaw. Basically, I had an underbite and in order to fix it, they moved my upper jaw forward. Luckily, that's the least complicted (upper, lower or both), so I could eat normally after 6 weeks. At November it will be a...

Poll: is the evolution of humans stagnating?

I'm going to have to agree with you. Just look at crocodiles. The only thing that has changed is the environment

I know this isn't important but it's funny (to me anyway)

I agree with Lemon. Awesome fake label! I guess most people can play jokes on each other, regardless of their job : )

Just Avoided a ticket like a pro

... Famous last words. Not understanding the relation between speed and kinetic energy can be fatal. Also, I'm going to agree with this guy. If anything, it's not pro. It's pathetic.

    Building my own PC

Usually, the manual for the motherboard is very telling. Most, if not all, cords are called something which the plug on the motherboard also is called. The tough part, perhaps, is finding all the parts you want ; )
