The term does not need to perfectly fit what it describes. For example, Persona 4, despite being developed in Japan, has several elements of a Western RPG. I like the term 'tactical shooter' for the genre, even if there isn't much, or any, tactics in it.

Halo is kind of a bad example. It has elements from both old school and brown shooters. How about old school and modern? Brown just has a negative attachment and, while I don't like the games, we can't just write them off if we ever want to be able to discuss them.

What you are describing are genres AND settings. We just want genres. Let's stick with the term 'realistic' shooter for Black Ops and Medal of Honor and such. What we need is a term shooters like Doom and Painkiller.

While I agree that my country does have a VERY irritating tendency to impose its rules on others, this isn't something so limited. Not that I'm for this. If I could, I'd find each person who thinks this is a good idea and knees them in the groin, even if my leg has to fall off.
