Try The Wire from the beginning. Very entertaining and some fantastic plot-lines and actors. I've also been loving Dexter recently after being very reluctant to watch it for ages (I don't know why!). Finally, Game of Thrones. I watched it all yesterday! Really good.

How about George Stobbart from the Broken Sword games? Great combination of humour, sarcasm and detective skills.
