    294: Grandpa Holds the Cards

Incidentally, that one "unwinnable" game in Windows FreeCell is, indeed, unwinnable. (It was proven by a computer program that went through all possible lines of play.)

292: The Making (and Unmaking) of a Nintendo Fanboy

The PS1 was better for single-player games, but the N64 was definitely better for multiplayer ones. Just look at the consoles themselves: the N64 had four controller ports, while the PS1 only had two.

    291: A Tactical Advantage

I tried out Magic the Gathering Tactics. It seems like a reasonable game, but the amount of content you get for free is really very small. The single-player campaign that starts out unlocked consists of a tutorial and five rather short levels. Each additional campaign, of which there are...

272: Games Are Modern Morality Plays

I'm impressed by this article. Interestingly, there are many video games that seem to be about humanity rising up and getting rid of their god(s) so they can control their own destiny. The Breath of Fire series, especially the third game, makes this explicit.

    Topical Tuesday: In-Game Death

Anyone here ever played Nethack? It's hard to top Nethack for crazy deaths. There's even a song about it! [http://www.thefump.com/lyrics.php?id=93] Skippy sank in lava, Corwin turned to slime, They could both see what was coming but they couldn't pray in time. Pinky fought a soldier ant...
