Poll: Best Cinema Director of the last 50 years

Umm, yeah he creates the themes. If you actually did your research, you would know that Harlan Ellison only accused Cameron of ripping off The Soldier. When asked by a fan what else he ripped off, Harlan said that there were only similarities to The Soldier. If you think that The Terminator is a...

Poll: Best Cinema Director of the last 50 years

Sorry, but I heavily disagree here (well, not on the Lucas bit that much, since it is such a complex topic). I think you are just grasping at straws here. He doesnt create a meaningful film? How? All his films have a certain theme, so they do have a meaning. Terminator is about technophobia...

Poll: Best Cinema Director of the last 50 years

Stanley Kubrick Bay and Lucas definitely (even though Lucas used to be good), but if you are gonna include Del Toro, then might as well include Cameron as well, since he is a much more established director (Terminator, Terminator 2 and Aliens), that also pulled out an oscar nominated...

Why do people love Citizen Kane?

That doesnt make it inferior. It is just another viewpoint.

Why do people love Citizen Kane?

How did it make it weaker overall? The point is still there: You cannot force someone to change. The film never denies the possibility of redemption.

Why do people love Citizen Kane?

Considering that Kubrick showed Eraserhead to his crew before making The Shining, I think that was the point. The coldness of the film is a part of the atmosphere. Dont Look Now is good, but dont compare it with The Shining as if an affecting, personal horror story was Kubricks goal. Horror...

Why do people love Citizen Kane?

OK, just checking. :) What are your thoughts on Danny Boyle? Also, since you like Robert Duvall, check out the Twilight Zone episode with him. It is probably the best acting in the whole series.

Why do people love Citizen Kane?

Nobody is denying its innovation. So? He felt that it wasnt organic to the plot. Kubrick wasnt some studio director, he was an auteur. If he didnt feel that the scene would work, then why should he have used it? Complaining that Kubrick wasnt 100 % faithful means nothing, considering he made...

    Great avatar, brah.

Why do people love Citizen Kane?

Even though I would imagine Kubrick not using the last scene nevertheless.

People also tend to forget that Star Wars popularized the used future concept, not Alien.

Why do people love Citizen Kane?

Actually, the narrator in Fight Club suffers because of excesses. At first he was a slave of consumerism, and then he was a slave of anti-establishment.

Why do people love Citizen Kane?

Not trying to be "that guy", but how many times have you seen Fight Club? I shared the same opinion about it the first time I watched it, but fell in love with it the second time. It is currently in my Top 5. Danny Boyle and David Fincher are truly modern masters of film.

Why do people love Citizen Kane?

I understand. The books ending offers a lot more closure than the movie, even though I dont hold that against the movie. Like I said before, two different interesting view points on the subject matter. Great for discussions. :)

Why do people love Citizen Kane?

I disagree here. Citizen Kane is very human, since one of the themes is the eventual loss of humanity.
