A few weeks ago the video series Extra Credits stopped releasing videos because, I assume, their artist, Alison, had just had a serious operation and that they would be having guest artists instead. I assumed they had gone on hiatus but now I realise they've been taken off the site altogether...

But isn't the story telling method part of the story itself? I understand your viewpoint; they are different things, but they both contribute to the experience and it is therefore irrelevant. To me, a simple story well told is still a good story. I suppose this is a subjective matter.

The same could be said about the games in the Metroid series; very little exposition, mostly done through events and actions rather than words. And just because, in reality, not a lot happens, it doesn't mean it can't be said to have a good story. Case in point; recent film '127 hours' by Danny...

YES! That was bugging me, Super Metroid, what an epic game!! Do you get chills from the opening title music, with the baby metroid in its container surrounded by collapsed scientists? Epic game, love it. Actually, you've reminded me that Okami has a pretty good story...perhaps not as noteworthy...

Aha! Nice to see Ico in there, thank you. I have a bit of a problem with the stories of Nintendo's main franchises in terms of story - there's just something to formulaic about each game for the stories to ever seem anything but adaptations of the original. Freaking love the games though.

Haha! Nope, the first review I ever saw of his was the Halo 3 one, which is one of my favourite games, so my first thought was; 'this gentleman and I don't see eye to eye'. I still value his opinion as someone who truly wants the best for the medium.

How could I forget about Shadow of the Colossus!!?? Thank you, I'd forgotten about that! I've never played any of the Metal Gears - I'd heard they have too many cut scenes, but with the recommendations I might give it a go.
