A U-TIC soldier in Xenosaga: Episode II.

I've gotta go with the idea of characters that are hard to zombify and would actually help protect you. KOS-MOS from Xenosaga for twin triple-barreled Gatling-gun action. Not hard on the eyes either. Master Chief or Gorden Freeman could possibly stop the whole apocalypse by themselves. But...

And when someone asks if you're a god, you say "yes"! You don't even look at, let alone go near anything Lovecraftian or Geiger-esque, especially derelict spacecraft.

If you do find J-RPGs at all to your liking, I highly recommend Xenogears and Xenosaga. Be warned though, Xenosaga is broken into 3 parts, and they phoned the second one in meaning you have to play through a really poorly made game to get the full story.
