I would say that Activision has certainly caused EA to put a lot more effort into there franchises and more support behind developers now that they have some MAJOR competition. Competition is always good for any market.

It would seem its not that you will be unable to play offline, you just cant save or load your game while offline. I guess with most games nowadays only being 5 hours long you COULD just beat it in one go.
