I don't see how the zerg were "noble". When Kerrigan said that they are "free" it was more that the Zerg themselves control their own fate, not outsiders like the UED or the Dark Voice. The Zerg head honcho (in this case, Kerrigan) is the one in charge. Also, it was mentioned in one of the books...
