If you're going to get into any Infinity Engine game, like Baldur's Gate or Planescape: Torment, you have to really buy into the ideas that you will have a pretty bad interface and that the core system is antagonistic as hell to people who don't understand it.
It's been said before but...
You're looking at it from the angle of preserving specific species, which the post you quote goes over pretty well. It's more like killing all humans to prevent more extinctions of other species, and then every so often coming back to kill whatever new species has climbed to the top of the pile...
Telling an adult to not get too drunk and to not walk alone at night isn't education, it's condescension.
Also, people have the right to expect to not be raped. But, it's cool, keep on saying that it's fine to say, in effect, "Just don't get into a situation where someone else forces...
What? When was the last time you had a serious discussion on what consent was in a sexual setting? Because we really, really don't tell people not to rape, or at least we don't do it in a meaningful sense where people understand what is consent and what isn't and what cannot be consent. And that...
I think that implying that it's one person's fault when another person assaults them is stupid, and that giving the 'advice' of "Well just don't get really drunk around people," to presumably full-grown adults is condescending as hell and implies fault. Also why don't we use the flipside of this...
Are you real? Because, yeah, implying that people just need to act differently to not get raped is victim blaming; you are putting at least some of the responsibility on the victim for not taking actions that you think would prevent rape somehow.
I like the people defending the games as somehow better in quality than the movies. Here's the thing: the movies are more faithful to the games than people want to admit. The games are full of terrible writing, Mary Sues, and general idiocy. Just like the movies. Granted, most of the Mary Sue is...
What's funny is that if you look at a dude parkouring and a lady parkouring they do it essentially identically because regardless of effectively minor differences in skeletal and muscular builds there's only so many ways the human body can do athletic activities and it's not a matter of MEN...
Icewind Dale is also from that Infinity Engine period and is a pretty solid game more focused on the combat side. Worth trying out. Same with Icewind Dale 2.
Please, enlighten me as to what sort of 'skill' is required to play Baldur's Gate other than learning how to save often. It's unforgiving to an extent, certainly, but my mother played and beat the game handily on normal difficulty and she's a ~filthy casual~ who mostly plays titles like Candy...
