I forgot about SoaSE but it is actually one of my favorite PC games. The reason I like Anno is because I rarely play it and I usually am playing with friends so that keeps it interesting for me.

The Anno series is pretty good if you like a combination of combat and city building. If you want more combat check out C&C Generals or the Blitzkrieg series for more realism.
