Definitely. Utter destruction is great catharsis after a long day of work. I've never played Bully but Dead Rising is definitely something else. Also I'd throw in Burnout Paradise. Games without much of a point, or at least with a point that you can totally ignore and go off on your own...

Its a nice thought but in practice the development team would spend all their time and resources working it into being 3D and EVERYTHING else you enjoy about the game would go up in flames.
