I third Brandon Sanderson's work, plus I'll add Patrick Rothfuss and Peter V. Brett. Rothfuss's books are some of the most detailed and polished works of fiction of any genre, and were a joy to read. Brett's novels are fun also, and they play on the reader's emotions exceptionall well.
