Personally, I don't think WoW is still alive because "it is a good game" but because of the fanbase. There are so many people that will fight to the death for WoW, and it doesn't matter what Blizzard does to the game. Also, I don't think as many people as you think care about the "storyline"...

Just FYI everyone, this game is NOT made by Square Enix, only produced by them.
