I'd put it simply down to fact that the legends for the "skill of the gunslinger" is nowhere near as deeply engrained as the legends for the "art of swordsmanship".
The sword has more myths and legends surrounding it. Therefore it is more romanticised and inevitably seen as the more elegant...
Of course gamers over 30 aren't weird. They are the majority of gamers.

Edit: after re-reading, the range of the survey is 19 to 90 so over 30's are probably not the majority of gamers. But 45% of those surveyed played video games, so...

Having said that, I don't think I've ever said no to a nice cup of tea with milk and 1 sugar.
