    This might be a silly suggestion since lately it's sequels are pretty well known, but could it perhaps be the first Witcher? It played pretty differently before the Enchanted Edition was released, though it should never be played un-enchanted ;)...

    EDIT: Managed to find this one after extensive use of Mobygames. It turned out to be Robo Rumble. Not the most refined of games, but at least it tries something new for it's time. /EDIT Hello, I've been wondering for a long time what this game was called. I only ever saw my friend...
