I must be the only one that thinks the game is great in its current state. Yeah, it could be a little better, the artifacts are obvious when you see them, but they're really not that common and are hardly game-breaking. The sprites, although strange looking in screenshots, are really not that...

It looks great, and I'm excited, but I can't help but wish it included more 2d hand-painted environments. I guess it's inevitable considering the era, but, le sigh. It includes the typical mushy-looking 3d textures of so much 3d gaming. Ah well.

You've got a good point about freedom vs. focus. Virtually every game is become a big open world these days and it is depressing as hell O.o If it weren't for the Souls games, I would say that Skyrim ruined everything.
