What would a medieval person think of us?

Also, I've read that autoimmune disorders such as allergies and asthma are more common in developed countries than developing countries. One of the main theories why is that people in developed countries aren't exposed to as many diseases in childhood, so their immune systems get a bit paranoid...

What would a medieval person think of us?

I'm going to assume, for simplicity's sake, that this is a Medieval English person getting timewarped to modern England. I'll call him Bob for convenience. As mentioned before, 11th century English was for all intents and purposes a different language from modern English, so Bob wouldn't be able...

Does sexist tropes in video games influence behavior? Violence =/= Sexism?

Personally, I think those concerns are just as baseless as Anita's. Blurred Lines is very clearly about a (admittedly somewhat sleazy) guy who is trying to sweet talk a girl in a club. Seriously, there's no way that "come on, get at me!" can be interpreted as anything but encouraging the other...

Does sexist tropes in video games influence behavior? Violence =/= Sexism?

You're right, maybe I did go too far in calling it censorship. But the arguments use a lot of the same language in terms of games being a threat to society. No, I don't think Anita's videos are going to have much if any influence on the actual industry. I just think there are more...

Does sexist tropes in video games influence behavior? Violence =/= Sexism?

So if we can't prove that changing the way games treat sex will make them better or worse, or that whether or not they will make society better or worse, then why bother advocating for that? Why do anything at all? The position advocating for change is the one that should be expected to make...

Does sexist tropes in video games influence behavior? Violence =/= Sexism?

First, because they're effectively calling for censorship. Sure, they've never explicitly advocated government regulation, but any time you say "these works should not exist because they are bad for society," you are advocating censorship, if only through public pressure. Note that during the...

Does sexist tropes in video games influence behavior? Violence =/= Sexism?

A question for the pro-influence people: why hasn't Ms. Sarkeesian herself been affected by sexism in video games? After all, she has played or at least watched LP footage of hundreds of hours of the very worst material that games have to offer. Yet it doesn't seem to have altered her attitudes...

Does sexist tropes in video games influence behavior? Violence =/= Sexism?

Personally, I doubt it. Due to things like confirmation bias, people are quite capable of clinging to their beliefs in the face of overwhelming real world evidence to the contrary. Hence the existence of young-earth creationists. Humans are really, really good at explaining inconvenient facts...
