Poll: But What If They're Right?

I think this is more a case of the government being seen to be doing the right thing. Here in the UK, they commissioned a report into the connection between violent video games and violent behaviour (at a cost to the tax payer). The conclusion was that all games needed to be subjected to the...

    Best First Person Shooter

A tough one for me. I would have to say Doom or Half Life 2.

    Why I don't like piracy: a software developer's thoughts.

I think most people would agree that the act of video game piracy is wrong. However that does not mean the industry imposing such restrictive ideas such as DRM is right either. If you value your work and want people to enjoy it, then don't tell them how to enjoy it, especially when they are...

Gears of War 2 Not Coming To PC

I wouldn't be surprised to see a PC version at some point in the future. The first game was heralded as an X Box 360 exclusive only for a PC version to follow.

Game Reviews, when do they matter?

The problems with scores, in reviews, is that most people tend to skip the text of the review and look at the score to decide whether the game is any good or not. Obviously reviews are mainly the opinion of the reviewer, but it is also useful to know what technical issues there may be with...

    Zero Punctuation: Soul Calibur IV

I have always enjoyed a love hate relationship with the fighting genre. I was in heaven after beating one of my friends 50 times in a row on Mortal Kombat 3, then I was in the depths of despair when I was unable to defeat the 2nd fighter in Dead or Alive 4. My inability to do anything...

realistic games. to much to ask for?

The game has to be fun first and foremost. Imagine an FPS whereby you would die after taking one hit. The frustration level would be too much. Playing the COD games on their highest difficulty setting are bad enough. The purpose of a game should encourage you to be the hero and to do the...

Games You Still Need to Play

Condemned 2. I purchased it ages ago and have yet to take it out of the wrapper.

Do graphics ever stop you from playing a game?

I would say it depended on whether the poor graphics impact on the playability of a game. However the most important element is the game play. I still go back and play Doom regularly because I love the game play and level design, even though the graphics are ancient compared with modern games.

    Voice of Gordon Freeman

Chris Tucker - in the style of the character he plays in The Fifth Element...I cannot remember what he is called.

Poll: What Hardware company would you resurrect?

I was torn between Commodore and Sega but I opted for Sega by virtue of the fact that I think the Dreamcast deserved much better than it got. I also love my Genesis/Mega Drive. Commodore provided my gaming fix in my informative years with the C64, but their crazy decision to flood the market...

Any beat 'em up. No matter which one, I am completely rubbish at them.

    Gamer Rage

Tomb Raider: Angel of Darkness The whole game was an exercise in frustration, but the one sequence I will never forget is where you had to guide Lara across a series of stone platforms some of which would give way a few seconds after you landed on it. This would have been bad enough, but the...

    Worst gaming mistake

I stupidly sold my N64 just before Goldeneye came out. As a result I never got to play the game along with many other classics. I still wait in vain hope that someday it will appear either on XBL or Virtual Console, but I am not holding my breath.
