I'm a Matte Painter at MPC in Montreal. I work on films, MPC has divisions that work on commercials and tv shows as well, but I prefer films personally.

I think the marketing of the game had a lot of people under the impression that they would have full control over exactly how the game ended (standard EA marketing fail and has very little to do with the developers). Also a lot of people were pretty butthurt because, lets face it, sad endings...

The Synthesis ending was my favorite ending...I rather liked the third game despite any flaws it had. The second will always be my favorite, but the hate ME3 gets will always baffle me.
