If you are willing to look at older exclusives (and like RPGs), Valkyria Chronicles and Disgaea 3 are great fun. The Ratchet and Clank games are quite good as well. No, I'm not much of an FPS guy, how could you tell?

Pretty much this. While the points about suffering are valid, the main reason they aren't used anymore is that they simply aren't very efficient weapons. Shotguns and fully automatic weapons are much better at stopping an enemy cold (as opposed to hot).

It really depends. As somebody said before, playing the "gold digger/slut" just makes the game awkward. Quite often, the gender of the character has little impact on the actual character. I just finished re-watching the Extra Credits on Female characters. Very few characters really need...

Arcanum on the PC seems to have been fairly obscure, I've never met anybody else who's played it at least. The Legend of Legaia on the PS1 is also an overlooked gem, the sequel less so.

The culture of the Fallout world never got out of the 50s or so. All of the "old" music in the game is the "new releases" of the culture. Additionally, Fallout loves it some references. Why write some old style music when you can just use the good old stuff?
