I liked blue dragon overall but the battle system was far too slow-paced for me. And I consider myself patient. Other than that it was fun, appropriate for all ages, though a bit on the easy side.

I don't pay "achievements" any mind. I know some people who make it a mission to unlock all they can in a game, but honestly, it doesn't really have an effect on anything you play, other than giving my completeist friends something to do :)

IMO, in recent years they've crawled out of their sports-only niche and have had some good results. Now they've got Warhammer Online which isn't going to be a WoW killer by any means, but has a decent playerbase.

I agree with the OP: It seemed to me the longer I have been playing games, the less lasting fun and charm they possess. But I don't think we're just out of ideas, I just think things have gotten so immensely complicated on a technological basis, that we've lost the things that really matter...
