Well, there's another Hobbit movie coming out in a couple of weeks that will make millions of dollars. On the strength of that alone, I'd say LOTR is still relevant. I wouldn't be surprised if, in a couple of years, Hollywood also decides to make a Silmarillion movie/trilogy for even more money.
