By a miracle, I was able to find it. Turns out my memory was completely wrong. The game was MicroMan - Adventure 1.

My memory of this game is hazy, but from what I do remember, it is a sidescroller shooter/labyrinth game. I seem to remember the color scheme being mostly grey, blue and purple/pink. Your character is small on the screen, can jump and shoot and there is a large robot/mech that you can encounter...
