The Warhammer 40k game of my dreams is a Turned Based Strategy game.

I second this - I have watched a fair bit of sanctus reach play, and it is fairly on the money for what you are looking for. Pretty much a digifed version of the tabletop (at least compared to other 40k games) which comes out a lot like xcom in terms of game flow.

Tomorrow's Darkest Dungeon Update Adds Town Events, Completes Kickstarter Stretch Goals

This is exactly why I dropped it about halfway through. Was about to pick it up again, but something tells me having the town as a source of rng slaps to the face is only going to put me off more. Like if opening the ship upgrade menu in ftl occasionally resulted in systems exploding and...

Shouldn't Bethesda Just Use The Term "Open World Sandbox"?

Exactly what was on my mind. An example earlier was becoming head of the College of Winterhold without knowing any spells, and sorting out all the problems by brawn... But who is to say that the College knows that? All they know is you went to sources of ancient sorcery, brought back...

Updates You Felt "Broke" Continuous/Ongoing Games

Rome 2: Total War. Not that it wasn't borderline unplayable to begin with, but the fact that over a year-and-a-bit time period they were bringing out almost monthly patches, each of which would add/remove features, change gameplay balance, and worst of all, massively re-arrange the tech and...

why can lesbians flirt in a way that's harassment if guys do it?

If we're going off anecdotal evidence, I have had several female friends (and two girlfriends) who have told me stories of feeling harassed by other women coming up to them and touching/grabbing/trying to kiss them. So I am not sure about the idea that it is considered "ok". Perhaps a...

non Americans: do you think we are violent?

Yes, and in this dark future, we will host numerous American military bases, get roped into sketchy wars, and my computer will autocorrect my spelling to the American style no matter how much I fiddle with the damned language settings... *Edited for silly grammatical mistake*

non Americans: do you think we are violent?

Speaking as a British person with a huge soft spot for Americans, yes and no. Are Americans a nation of orcs, constantly enacting violence on one another? No. The vast majority of Americans I have personally met are intensely lovely and friendly people. On the other hand, there are...

    Vacation tips for England

If you are going to Scotland: don't travel North, travel West. The West Coast of Scotland in the Summer is one of the most beautiful regions of the UK: where the highlands drop off into the sea and give way to a landscape of an ancient mountain range jutting through the ocean. If the weather is...

8 Bit Philosophy: Why do Haters Hate?

I find this a really interesting issue: group-based hatred seems to have been the major factor behind the majority of the darkest parts of human history. I like Aldous Huxley's take on it, where in a discussion of the vices that societies face (sex, drugs, alcohol etc.) refers to it as...

8 Bit Philosophy: Why do Haters Hate?

I was a bit disappointed: When I heard "Diogenes of Sinope", I was hoping that we were about to get some anecdotes and examples. That man was (by all, fragmentary accounts) an absolute badass. According to legend, Alexander the Great came to meet him (in the clay jar that Diogenes lived in...

Ever stop watching something because it became too something?

Breaking Bad. Maybe halfway through the third or fourth series? Basically, I felt it just all got too unrelentingly grim and angsty, and absolutely clear that nothing was going to work out well for anyone. Which for me, took away any element of suspense. I find "how is this all going to go...

Expanding the Game: The Semantics of Standalone

Expanding the Game: The Semantics of Standalone

Hey, some standalone human expansions really stood the test of time: HeLa cells were taken from a cervical tumour way back in 1951, and are still going strong! Like, 20 tons of biomass and invading other samples in biological research labs strong. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HeLa

Total War: Attila Preview - Hands-on With Doom

On the one hand, the time period should be really interesting, being closer to the start period of "Medieval TW: Viking invasion" (one of my favourite installments) than the start of Rome 2. Also, this time period promises some serious diversity in terms of units: unlike Rome 2, which...

    Je Suis Charlie

You are entirely right: in the face of injustice, every individual has to make their own call. For people who don't suffer from such shittiness, it is REALLY easy to stand back and say: "Hey, just do the brave thing! I always feel like doing brave stuff after some quail and a massage from my...
