I had a simmilar problem. Ghost in the Shell is just too good! I would reccomend Darker than Black, especially the first season. Downbeat sci-fi with original characters and music by Yoko Kanno, the lady behind GitS soundtrack. Also Cowboy Bebop. Again, sci-fi and music by Yoko Kanno...
