I don't have an xbox - but a someone online told me that he fixed this issue on Xbox by setting the console settings to WIDESCREEN - although I can't vouch that it'll work as I have not tried.

PS - DO NOT SCRAPE OR RUB THE DISK - the problem has nothing to do with the disk - you'll only end up destoying your game and probably your PS3 when you try to play it... Whoever posted that needs to get banned.
