Some Anime age poorly, some do not age at all. El-Hazard is one of those that remains timeless, as well as Record of Lodoss War. Anything by Miyazaki-san can be seen over and over again by any generation of Anime fan as well as Wings of Honneamise.
Seriously, if you want Akira, you have to read the Graphic Novels, the movie does not do it any justice.
For "deep", thought provoking Anime, anything by Miyazaki will do, as well as "5cm per second"
