A lot of libraries here in blighty have video games, and they pretty much all have movies. I like it personally - I don't play console games on the whole, so I don't rent them, but it gets people in. My local library has a pretty good selection; the library in the town where I work has a...
A good example of how the numbers game is perceived by the public is to check out the comments thread for pretty much any popular review on Eurogamer. If a game gets 9/10, for example, you will see a procession of comments such as -
"So, better than MGS4 then?" [Eurogamer gave MGS4 8/10, it's...
Using the mean score seems a little odd, particularly as you only have three categories, one of which seems a little insignificant. Is the number of guns really more important than sound design (for example)?
On pc L4D I've only come across a very few griefers and asshats, and I've added insane numbers of people based purely on how they play - attitude rather than ability that is.
Last night we had a griefer - he was rude and arrogant, and then tried to vote kick a joiner so he could get his buddy...
Good review, and not just because I'm an enormous L4D fan boy. You touched on most everything - except for perhaps the audio / visual elements. You also might want to run through versus mode, which is awesome (on pc at least, I have no reason to believe otherwise on xbox).
I used to love WipeOut 2097, but many moons ago I had a game on the C64 that went by the name of Turbo Charge. It was something of a Chase HQ clone (speeding after bad guys and shooting them with car mounted guns and rockets) and it was insanely fast. I could perfect lap Wipeout 2097 on Phantom...
I was under the impression that you see the character in cut scenes and animated sequences, although I wouldn't swear to it.
It's interesting that a female video game character's lack of enormous boobs can become a talking point. A new dawn for video game design? I won't hold my breath...
I'm fairly certain the checkpoints exist (a) to help you learn the track - I don't want to restart every time I make a mistake while trying to hit that awkward jump right before the finish,
and (b) to stop people from 'cutting' - even some of the official tracks have huge short cuts in them...
Going with the 'expectations too high' crowd here.
I love computer games - not every game of course, but in general I think it's amazing how far they've come. Once upon a time my favourite game was Last Ninja - twenty years go by, and that genre has morphed into Tomb Raider / Prince of...
As Gloating Swine says, the translation for the book is appalling. I gave up in the end, it just made my head hurt - it did seem to be getting better as I went on, but I just couldn't be bothered.
Good movie though.
