Poll: Is StarCraft really the quintessential RTS?

    *coughs* Herzog Zwei.

    DnD IRC?

There are ways around that. Most places have a dedicated dice roller to discourage that. Just ask that people use said dice roller out in the open and you should be okay. For example, magicstar servers have the /roll command, while Myth Weavers has the [dice] tag.

Poll: Is StarCraft really the quintessential RTS?

I agree, at least in theory. Then again, it had a huge number of bugs and only one side was worth using. But add in any of the mods and it became waaaay better than Starcraft. And now that TA Spring is out... Of course, TA wasn't quite the quintessential RTS. Almost no special abilities, no...

    DnD IRC?

You can find the complete 3.5e rules at www.d20srd.org, barring some stuff on experience and copyrighted material (mind-flayers). A good site for play-by-post is www.myth-weavers.com, and you might be able to find a chat-based game on openRPG (www.openRPG.com). I don't know any IRC stes...

Poll: Is StarCraft really the quintessential RTS?

Quintessential is 'purest form of', really. So the question, IMO, is not whether Starcraft is the best RTS but the most 'RTSy', if that makes any sense. I'd say so. AFAIK, Starcraft is the most popular RTS in existence. The only thing that even approaches (or surpasses, I dunno) it is...

Why so much hate for Turn Based Games?

Settlers is actually a board game. It's a lot of fun, too; I recommend checking it out if you haven't yet.

Why so much hate for Turn Based Games?

I see a distinct lack of "The Settlers of Catan" on that list of yours. ;)

Why so much hate for Turn Based Games?

Chaos Gate was awesome, although the bugs could get annoying. The soundtrack was amazing, though. If you're interested in the genre, other good games are the X-COM series (abandonware now) and Jagged Alliance (which I really need to play and is abandonware). Maybe we could make a compendium...

Does anyone feel a sense of morality when playing an RTS?

I've noticed that, too. Whenever I play games with multiple races I almost always choose a non-human race while I learn how to play the game, and then almost exclusively play humans afterward. I prefer them but don't think "I can do them justice" while I'm still new. Also, I tend towards...

Why so much hate for Turn Based Games?

Hi, I'm a first time poster. And, for the record, I'm a male teenager with ADD. I find this discussion slightly odd, because the majority of the TBSes forwarded are FF style JRPGs and Civilization. I don't think this represents the scope of the field. What ever happened to games like X-com...
