I have a problem with Dark Souls

It's been said already, but merits further emphasis: pushing forward is ne plus ultra for advancing a character in DS. You can putz around in early areas forever and not really improve in the ways that matter to making your build viable for the endgame. I will admit to having farmed certain...

What was the first game to feature "x-ray sniping?"

Thanks! This seems to be the consensus. Fun game mechanic. I especially appreciated it in an open world game like RF:G because you could scope civilians in cars and it would just look like two seated guys hovering down the street with no vehicle.

What was the first game to feature "x-ray sniping?"

I guess "wall banging" is another popular term for this, though I would say you don't actually have to see the enemy to wall bang.

What was the first game to feature "x-ray sniping?"

X-ray Sniping: (n) A game mechanic in which the player can use a combination of advanced optics and high-penetration munitions to snipe enemies through walls. I first experienced this game mechanic in Red Faction: Guerilla. Mass Effect 3 had a lot of it as well, especially in multiplayer...

    The dreaded water level

This was very much the case in the diving segments of AC IV, but I actually didn't mind them. They are super tense as everything is trying to kill you and drowning is a persistent hazard. At a certain point in the game, however, they are the only areas that pose a challenge.

Thirty greatest video games that time forgot

I remember Zillion. Man, just about any exclusive on the SMS got cosigned to the dustbin of vague memories. The Wonderboy sequel in which you transform into different animal forms was actually a really tight game, but I've never heard anyone talk about it.

Obvious things you missed in games.

Yeah, the heavy cannons were not adequately explained in game. I knew they were there, but assumed they fired automatically while ammunition lasted. It wasn't until I watched an internet vid on tactics that I understood they can only be fired without activating the aim.

Obvious things you missed in games.

Oh boy. Does anyone remember that MASSIVE Collector ship floating above Horizon in ME2? Yeah, I somehow failed to see it on my first playthrough.

    The dreaded water level

No idea what makes the bad water levels bad--perhaps due in part to the high-profile nature of some of the more notorious ones like the Water Temple? It's always been considered something of a scrappy mechanic, subjecting players to the ordeal of having to navigate water while risking drowning...

    Favourite Game Music 2013

TLOU had the best original score of the games I played. I also really enjoyed the sea shanties in AC4.

Now that the GTA V hype is gone...

Weirdly, GTA 5 had me riveted while I was playing the sp campaign, but I haven't thought of it since it left my console in late October. The heists were well thought out and fun, but the story is kind of a non-entity. Actually, the story that you could infer from watching the trailers is more...

What was the most satisfying weapon you've used in a game?

I guess the short list would include the grav gun in HL2, some of the more brutal Dead Space weapons, like the line gun--despite the fact that its low ammo capacity made me reluctant to equip it--and various weapons from ME3 multiplayer, like the Typhoon and Javelin that allow heavy duty...

Assains Creed Revelations. Should I even bother?

What I liked most about Revelations--the conclusion to Altair's story and Ezio's uncovering of it--would probably be served just as well but looking up the relevant clips on Youtube. Apart from that, gameplay and story are mostly so so, though the art direction is pretty sharp. It's not as bad...

GTA V Ending Discussion (Obvious Spoilers)

I did both A and C in that order, and found the latter to be much more fully realized. Gameplay-wise, there's not a hell of a lot to Choice A: you chase Trevor around for a while until he drives into a cutscene, then BBQ his balls as he throws his last defiant curses at you. A fitting and...
