Gods (1991) - I used to start this game up on my Amiga 500 to simply hear the intro music. The tune is called 'Into the Wonderful', I think.
Bioshock - excellently captures the era and feel of the game.
LA Noire - as above.
Heavy Rain - seriously emotive soundtrack.

Portal 2's a very different game. I loved the first one, but have yet to really get into the sequel. Requires a different mood and mindset to most games.
Games are essentially escapism, but I wouldn't mind more attention to detail in certain games.

The original Bioshock nailed 50s/60s art and decor. The juxtaposition of what we now consider quaint (look at the recent resurgence of interest in 40s/50s settings, advertising and fashion) against horrific/survival horror themes is always thoroughly unsettling; Fallout 3 did something similar...
