Close friends are family. I'd hate to have to choose either way.

I'll have to dig around, but a few I remember were Koudelka, which began the Shadow Hearts series (which I loved up until Shadow Hearts 3), and Saga Frontier 2 for the PS1. Suikoden comes to mind as well, specifically 1, two, and five as my favorites.
