I'd vote for Victor Davion-Steiner from the Battletech/Mechwarrior universe.

The Mistborn trilogy by Brandon Sanderson is an amazing series. Also, the Codex of Alera series by Jim Butcher is pretty good as well.

I'd have to go with Battletech's Uziel. At 50 tons, its not the biggest, or the baddest, but it is a solid machine. 2 PPC's, an SRM 6 and a pair of machine guns give it some good short and long range firepower, and it has enough armor to turn aside most weapons. Combine that with a decent speed...
