Pandarens were in WC3 because they were meant to be a joke. Samwise's answer to question: They are officialy a part of "lore" since Mists of Pandaria. Modern Lore starts from the beginning of World of Warcraft.

I will only answer this, because all I could read from the laughter was this: Pandarens weren't orignally supposed to be a featured race, but a joke. As you can read above, it wasn't really really supposed to be included, but it was the fans who wanted pandas. Feel free to cry some more...
