    RIP Jerry Springer.

Can't wait for some white girl with cornrows to crash his funeral and kick his coffin over

Why shouldn't a film be reviewed by people who aren't its target audience? What's wrong with a diversity of opinion?

Got a free trial of a streaming service and watched a handful of newer things. The Truth, Kore-eda's French film from a couple years ago was about as polite and lukewarm as most of his Japanese work. Family resentment and gentle moments that don't really build up to anything. Ethan Hawke...

I haven't seen Benediction, but I'm under the impression that I'd like it a lot based on this lol

I think the Broadway Melody number is better approached as a ballet, a phantasmagorical representation of the expressive potentials of film and dance. It's 100% Gene Kelly: An American in Paris ends similarly and a film he directed, Invitation to the Dance is basically nothing but that. It's...

I think being familiar with the films Tarantino references weakens his work. It's really distracting, he lifts dialogue, music, and shots verbatim.

To the posters saying they haven't seen Kane or The Godfather: are you regularly watching other films from the 40s or 70s? I think it would be peculiar if that was the case and those still went without being seen. Not so strange if you aren't exploring those eras and have no intention to.

When you love the games but hate the company

I love some of Nintendo's older games, but I really dislike how anti-consumer and anti-fan community they are. I haven't given them a cent since the mid 00's, so it's hard for me to say I like their newer games or not. I haven't played them.

Is the idea that TV is a step down from film still common?

I think TV is absolutely a step down from film. It's not as steep as a step as it used to be for sure, but TV is still a corporate venture and it feels like it. Twin Peaks is excellent, but it's maybe the only TV I've seen that felt exciting.

Why 99% of (Mainstream) Movies are Garbage

The 2010's were one of the worst decades film has ever had. People don't care about the medium anymore. It's about franchises upheld by legions of nostalgic grown children.

Watched The Red Spectacles, Mamoru Oshii's first live action film and the first film in the Kerberos saga, which has spanned several titles, the most iconic of which is Jin-Roh. This one is about a Kerberos officer, one who refuses to step down after the unit is disbanded, and flees the...

Citizen Kane is very good. I don't understand how someone could watch that film and not be impressed with how well crafted it is.

Everything the Wachowski's made before Matrix is better than Matrix too! Can't forget Bound, it might be their best work!

I'll say that I think the Japanese New Wave is better than the French New Wave.

I watched The Ninth Configuration, a 1980 psychological thriller/comedy written and directed by Exorcist author William Peter Blatty. It's about an isolated military asylum and focuses primarily on a captain newly assigned to oversee treatment, and a patient, a former astronaut, who suffered a...
