    Critical Miss: #7

Actually, I don't mind the replacement of letters and numbers as much as I hate two other major break-downs of English: 1. Mixing up your and you're or there their and they're and (this one really burns me) 2. Subject/object pronoun misuse: Sentences like, "They did something nice...

/* Drama Mode I wonder if we are placed in order of rank. If that's the case, I got 300 out of 346, which means I'm in the bottom 13.3 percentile. I knew I was deluding myself into thinking I was any good. I might as well cut off my left hand and delete Photoshop from my hard drive so I'll...

If I were to resubmit, I would create a comic called, "Confessions of a Recovering Gamer." It would chronicle how my perceptions of reality have been influenced by my gaming and the stupid things I do as a result.

Now would be a good time to remind everybody that the announcement will be the WEEK of the 8th, not necessarily the day. Anytime between now and Friday could be the announcement day. Please be patient, and I apologize for breaking anybody's spirit.

Having to wait until the 8th puts a wrinkle in my plans. I had hoped to get the results sometime this week so I'd have time to reapply to my old newspaper job by Friday. Oh well. Since there's nothing to do but wait, I'm going back to lurker mode. Good luck everyone. Ritzbot signing off.

If I lose the contest, I'll go back to building the setting of the non-gaming comic that I've been planning for a while. It'll be a world full of mad science, forbidden magic, and plot holes. I just need to make sure it's different enough from the other comics I read.

My first paid comic series was for my college newspaper. I named the characters after faucet, pipe, and valve companies... whatever I could find in the bathroom. The hero was Ethan Moen; the evil teacher was Steve Kohler; the bad-attitude sidekick was Jacob Sloan. I never came up with an...

I expected this to happen. As long as there is time to make improvements, it might as well be used to do so. Next time a contest like this comes around, though, I'm going to make sure my comic is mostly done before I start experimenting with new techniques.

I'm just saying that since the prize is a contract with the Escapist, I don't want to see a really cool comic get turned down because the cartoonist admitted to being a slacker. I want to win, of course, but I want it to be a fair competition even more.

It seems to me that telling stories of how long we spent on our comics can be very detrimental to our success. Saying, "I didn't start until yesterday" is like having a big sign on your chest that says, "Procrastinator." Claiming to have worked the entire month and not have something ready may...

Industry Elites Added As Judges for Webcomic Contest

Is this thread an appropriate place to share advice on the comics-making process? I am always interested in learning how to improve my work and in sharing my experience with others. My worries are twofold: first, this thread seems more related to official rules than to general advice; second...
