They kind of do, since everything in the game takes 1 hit (save bosses) and pogoing through a level is the fastest, and safest way to go through. Also the Amazon room I mentioned, with 1cm of clearance.

And the controls are anything but bad. You have some the best air control in an NES game, and pogoing is NOT hard. It's only difficult in the Amazon room where you have 1cm to do it. Even then you should be able to more than 70% of the time.
